Membership Criteria -To qualify for membership in SIM International, individuals must fall into one of these five leadership categories:

1. Senior information managers in public or private sector organizations who are either:

    • Corporate/Division Head of your company's corporate or divisional IS organization.
    • IS Management Staff supporting Corporate/Division IS Heads with key management roles, as certified by the head of the organization.

2. Academic: Full-time university or college faculty members making a significant contribution to the IS field.

3. National/Regional Office & Consulting Leaders: Leading individuals and other experts from consulting firms and other service/vendor organizations who serve information managers and directly contribute to the IS profession. Generally not Sales, Business Development nor Marketing oriented roles; but strategic advisors and leaders of the regional or national practice/office. Please note that SIM adheres to a strict policy against any marketing or commercial activities and, therefore, will only accept sales and marketing representatives to its membership through the Vendor & Service Provider program. For this membership category there are certain requirements that will need to be satisfied by the qualified applicant prior to being accepted as a new chapter member.

4. Other Leaders: Leaders in shaping and influencing law and government policy in areas of professional concern to information managers.

The chapter board will vote upon candidates for membership.


The SIM International dues are $160 per year for for-profit companies, $80 for non-profit companies, government agencies, or educational institutions.  The membership year coincides with the calendar year, but if you join after our May meeting, your dues also pay for next year’s membership.

The annual Portland chapter dues are $65.  Your dues allow the chapter to recruit speakers for our monthly meetings, support the chapter leadership, and subsidize other SIM activities.  You must be a member of SIM International to be a member of the Portland chapter. 

The Portland chapter dinner meetings are held on the second Wednesday monthly from September through December and on the third Wednesday from January through May.  There are no chapter meetings during the months of June, July, and August.  The local dues do not cover meals at our meetings, which cost $40 for members or $50 for non-members.  At the next annual renewal, you will have the option of pre-paying $280 for all of your meals for the calendar year, a savings of $80.

The Enterprise Programs for corporate SIM membership entitles three or more representatives from an organization to receive SIM products and services at a reduced rate.  The Enterprise Program requires that at least one of the representatives be a chief (CIO) or divisional information officer.  Four categories are available.

The Partner Program is an exclusive opportunity for companies who provide products and services to the IT community and want to develop their businesses through meaningful relations and exposure to key customers. Participants in this program enjoy year-round payback through enhanced visibility opportunities of name recognition and company profiling, company directed and hosted activities and programs; and enhanced access to SIM leaders and members. Organizations can become involved as a Partner for $30,000.
